Dear BTB Family,

We would like to give a warm and heartfelt welcome to the newest member of the BTB coaching staff  and family, Mr. Eddie Concepcion.
Eddie and his family come to us from Savannah, GA to be closer to family and for his wife’s new position at Oglethorpe University.
Many of you may have already had the pleasure of meeting Eddie at the Buckhead gym but if you haven’t you will be seeing him next week as he will be making his way to both gyms and establishing his new schedule.
Please see a few fun facts about Eddie including his love for coaching and health/fitness.
Welcome to the Family Eddie!!!!

About Eddie,
I am 54 years old, I was born in Fajardo Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I obtained a master degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design.  Where I then stayed (for 28 years) and coached as an assistant men’s basketball coach, women’s head coach. I helped guide both teams to the first round of the NCAA DIII tournament. I stopped coaching and started the college’s first fitness center, recreation and intramural department.

How long have I been CrossFitting?
I’ve been doing CrossFit for 5 years. My students kept telling me about this CrossFit thing and asking me to teach classes. My response was that I did not feel comfortable teaching something I didn’t know. I did some research and, like an idiot, I signed up to take the CF level I. As luck would have it, The owner of CF SteadFast, in Savannah, Ga., happened to be walking past the university gym where he was handing out 2 weeks free passes at his new box. He handed me one as I was walking by and ask me to visit, which I did. I got my you know what handed to me on the warm up, and I was hooked. After my first year I introduced our boxes first striking classes, Kids CrossFit Kids classes and have been coaching regular classes. At the same time I been coaching CrossFit and other classes (like kickboxing, self-defense and core stability) at the university for students, faculty and staff.

What do I enjoy about coaching?
Being part of guiding someone towards achieving all their fitness goals and surpassing them is the greatest reward for me.

Favorite WOD?
There is always going to be a special place in my heart for Fran. Fran was my very first named WOD. I didn’t know what all the fuss was about until I did it…barely.

Whats my favorite and least favorite movements?
I like Rowing and wall balls, because I’m tall. My favorite strength exercise is deadlifts.

What is a fun fact about you?
I am ranked in the top 10% in the world in my age group, for CrossFit. I am the back to back champion of the Hilton Head garage wars.

What is your favorite thing todo outside of coaching and CrossFit?
Besides playing around with my boys I like to play basketball.

My favorite music to listen to while working out?
My favorite music to workout with is usually anything with a hard beat. I love AC/DC and old school stuff but I also have hip hop stuff. Sometimes, during strength training, I listen to things like Andrea Bocelli. My music library has 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, Country, hip hop, techno and all kinds of music.
